ArcSolar field guide / Connection and proposals

Solar export limits: a retailer’s proposal checklist

Check the site’s network connection offer before describing export income or promising installation readiness. Panel capacity, inverter capacity and the permitted export limit answer different questions. Keep the approved limit and the proposal assumptions together.

Gather five things before issuing the offer

  • Confirm the installation address, NMI, distributor and supply phases against the customer’s evidence.
  • Record panel capacity, combined solar/battery inverter ratings and the requested export limit separately.
  • Keep the current network offer, reference, approved export limit and any stated conditions or expiry.
  • Check compatible equipment, internet requirements and who will complete commissioning and metering steps.
  • Review savings assumptions and give every unresolved condition an owner before handover.

ArcSolar’s Site Information Form collects the bill, switchboard photos and cable-run video. Review the uploads before quoting; a submitted form does not approve a grid connection.

Check the distributor’s current rules

AusNet’s up-to-30kW guidance requires pre-approval before installation and assesses combined solar and battery inverter ratings. The offer records the permitted generation and export limits; available export capacity can change.

Ausgrid describes fixed and flexible export options for new or upgraded systems from late 2026, with internet communication requirements. Its page does not give an exact commencement date. Confirm the current connection process before treating those future arrangements as available.

Example: 10kW inverter, 1kW export offer

Illustrative example: a single-phase customer has a proposed 10kW inverter and a network offer allowing 1kW export. Record both values. The 1kW limit constrains export power; it does not mean the system generates only 1kW or exports 1kWh each day.

Keep approval and estimates separate

Rules vary by network, site and connection type. A flexible maximum may be reduced as network conditions change. This checklist does not replace the connection agreement or installer assessment. ArcSolar’s savings estimate needs reviewed inputs; automatic enforcement of a distributor’s export limit in the estimator is not established here.
