EV charger quotes: site assessment and strata approval checks

Before promising an EV charger installation price, establish the charging need, parking location and electrical assessment. For strata properties, add the approval pathway and responsibility for shared infrastructure. A charger’s advertised power alone does not define the job.

Collect enough information for the electrician

  • Record the vehicle’s charging requirements, usual parking location and charging window. Note existing solar, other planned electrical upgrades and the customer’s preferred charger.
  • Ask a licensed electrician to assess the supply, switchboard and installation route. Australian Government guidance says a dedicated home charger may require switchboard and supply-connection upgrades.
  • Keep equipment, cable route, access and any additional works explicit in the proposed scope. Customer photos help preparation; they do not replace an electrical assessment.

For apartments, check permission and shared capacity

DCCEEW’s strata guidance separates owners corporation approval from building readiness. Confirm the parking-bay permission, electrical assessment and responsibility for installation, ongoing electricity and maintenance costs.

Where several chargers are planned, ask the specialist about load management and future capacity. Record the agreed solution and any building work before treating a resident’s request as installation-ready.

Example: a car-space request needs building review

Illustrative enquiry: an apartment owner requests a charger beside their parking bay. The installer still needs the building’s electrical assessment and owners corporation decision. Keep those actions with named owners and mark shared electrical work as unresolved instead of promising a standard installation date.

Keep evidence collection separate from engineering

ArcSolar’s Site Information Form collects a bill, switchboard photos and a cable-run video, with the documented video prompt referring to a battery location. Confirm the appropriate collection process for charger-specific evidence; this guide does not claim a dedicated EV assessment form, load-management controller or approval integration.

Electrical and strata requirements depend on the location and site. Do not ask customers to remove covers or access live equipment for photos. A CRM status or uploaded image does not certify capacity or authorise installation.

Rehearse the handover for one charging job

Use a demo to review the customer record, available site information and work-order readiness. Give each missing permission or assessment a responsible person and a clear next action.
