Reverse-cycle air conditioning quotes: sizing, replacement and VEU checks

A useful reverse-cycle air conditioning quote states which spaces it will heat and cool, the selected equipment and the assessed installation scope. Keep that design decision separate from any Victorian Energy Upgrades discount so an attractive rebate does not drive the wrong system choice.

Define the spaces and replacement scope

  • Record which rooms need heating and cooling, their dimensions, ceiling heights, glazing, insulation and local climate. Ask the installer to assess the load rather than selecting capacity from floor area alone.
  • Identify the current heater or air conditioner and whether it serves a room or the whole home. Separate removal, ducting, electrical work and access requirements from the new equipment.
  • Check heating and cooling ratings separately, along with the zoned energy label. The Victorian sizing guidance recommends an onsite load assessment; an online calculator is only a guide.

For VEU, verify the actual replacement pathway

The Victorian guidance reviewed on 16 October requires an approved high-efficiency reverse-cycle product providing heating and cooling, with a minimum five-year warranty for a home. If replacing a system, the old equipment must be more than two years old.

Arrange the accredited provider assessment before work. Have the provider confirm the model, applicable discount and paperwork. Indicative discounts differ by existing equipment and upgrade configuration; do not apply a ducted-gas replacement figure to every aircon enquiry.

Example: one room is not a whole-home replacement

Illustrative job: a household requests cooling for the lounge while retaining heating elsewhere. Clarify whether the proposal is a single-room addition or a whole-home replacement. Ask the installer to confirm the scope and the provider to assess the matching incentive pathway before sending the final price.

Software handover does not establish suitability

The VEU checks apply to Victoria, not every Australian installation. Product registration and a CRM stage do not replace the installer’s assessment or provider confirmation. This guide does not establish native HVAC load calculations or automated VEU eligibility in ArcSolar.

Give each outstanding check an owner

Use ArcSolar’s documented field-work preparation to review the site, scope, installer, documents and outstanding readiness conditions. In a demo, trace a representative aircon enquiry through that handover and confirm the controls available in your workspace.
